Tope Smart now NIA Chairman, Charts new course
The Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA), on Thursday at its 47th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Lagos changed its mantle of leadership and that ushered in Mr. Tope Smart as new Chairman of the association.
Smart, who is the Managing Director of NEM Insurance Plc. succeeded Eddie Efekoha, the immediate past chairman of the association.
Smart, until his election was the Deputy chairman of the association.
In his acceptance speech, Smart assured he would adopt a policy of ‘Insurance First’ to lift the business and image of insurance in Nigeria, as well as protect the corporate interest of member companies of the NIA.

“My agenda would be anchored on the basis of Insurance First and NIA First. I promise to lift the image and business of insurance in Nigeria to the next level. We need to leverage on the experience of the industry to achieve the necessary result as well as collaborate with other arms of the insurance industry and relevant stakeholders outside the industry to move our market forward.
He, who assured the unveiling of a comprehensive agenda of his stewardship soon, solicited the support of the member companies of the association, the entire insurance industry adding that that will make his tenor a success.

Meanwhile, the MD/CEO of Mutual Benefits Assurance Plc, Segun Omosehin; MD/CEO of AIICO Insurance Plc, Edwin Igbiti and MD/CEO Capital Express Assurance, Bola Odukale were equally elected into the Governing Council of the association.
