Zulum, Abiodun, Okowa, Makinde, others take oaths of office

Two former Nigerian presidents, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan were absent as President Muhammadu Buhari and the vice president, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo where sworn in for another four-year tenure at a ceremony held at Eagle Square, Abuja on Wednesday.
The acting Chief Justice of the Nigeria, Justice Tanko Mohammad, administered the oath of office to the President at 10:42 am, shortly after Osinbajo had taken his.
Based on the Constitution, the President swore that as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria he would discharge his duties to the best of his ability, faithfully and in accordance with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the law, and always in the interest of the sovereignty, integrity, solidarity, well-being and prosperity of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Buhari who won his re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) also swore that he would preserve the Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy contained in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and that he would not allow his personal interest to influence his official conduct or official decisions.
Soon after the swearing-in, there was the lowering and hoisting of the National and Defence flags and 21 gun salutes.
Afterwards, the president inspected the Guard of Honour and acknowledged cheers from the guests.
The event was witnessed by a former military head of state, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, the senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Yakubu Dogara as well as members of the first families including the wives of the president and Osinbajo, Aisha and Dolapo respectively.
Others present at the inauguration included the embattled national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, former governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and ex-Osun State governor, Chief Bisi Akande.
Besides, service chiefs, members of the diplomatic corps, members of the federal executive council, the head of civil service of the federation and captains of industry, among others were in attendance.
Meanwhile in Borno State, the APC governor-elect, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, was also sworn in.
He took the oath of office alongside his deputy, Alhaji Umar Kadafur.
The oath of office was administered by the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Kashim Zanna, in a ceremony attended by thousands of residents of Maiduguri, community leaders and other top government officials.
Speaking before the handover, the outgoing governor, Mr. Kashim Shettima, said he was delighted to hand over the reins of power to an outstanding and competent personality who possessed the qualities to move the state forward.
He called on people of the state to support the new administration to enable it serve the people better.
In his maiden address, Zulum promised to implement a 10-point agenda to fast track rapid social and economic development of the state.
In Ogun State, the APC governor-elect, Mr. Dapo Abiodun, took the oath of office as the fifth governor executive of the state for a four-year term.
Abiodun was sworn-in alongside his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, after the duo took the oath of allegiance and oath of office at the MKO Abiola Stadium at Kuto in Abeokuta, the state capital on Wednesday.
The oath of office was administered by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, on the deputy governor around 11:40 am, while the governor took his own around 11:53 am.
Dignitaries at the event included the former governor of the state, Chief Segun Osoba; former deputy governor, Mr. Gbenga Kaka, Senator representing Ogun West, Mr. Tolu Odebiyi; chairman of the APC in the state, Mr. Yemi Sanusi and the current president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Mr. Amaju Pinnic, among others.
In Kwara State, the new governor, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq and his deputy, Mr. Kayode Alabi were sworn in by the chief judge of the state, Justice Suleiman Kawu Durosinmi.
The governor who received the handover note from the former governor, Mr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, through the Head of Service, Mrs. Susan Dupe Oluwole, pledged to run an open door policy that will usher in new economic growth and equal opportunities for everyone in the state.
“In all our policies, programmes and actions, the people of Kwara shall always come first.
“Today, I invite you all to join hands with us in government to repair and rebuild Kwara. I invite constructive criticism and urge you all to utilise our open door policy to communicate ideas and suggestions to us.”
“What we stand for is to empower our people. Make society and life better. Strengthen family values. Improve efficiency and service delivery in our public services.
“What we have lacked before now are dependable and sustainable development plans, credible policies and policy discipline, accountability and transparency, a good sense of social justice and ability to expand social and political spaces that will promote tolerance, equality and innovation.
“Revamp our education to produce the best minds that will in turn make Kwara second to none. Promote industry, agriculture, technology and social services and open up new vistas of opportunities that will promote the common good. These are areas where our government will make a difference.”
“We are confident that we shall, together, make Kwara great again through prudent deployment of resources, involving the people in policy making, interrogating past decisions only to the extent that they enable us to move forward,” he said.
In Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa and his and his deputy, Mr. Kingsley Otuaro, took their oath of office for another four-year term at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba
Okowa and Otuaro who the election on the ticket of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were sworn in by  the Chief Judge of Delta, Justice Marshall Umukoro,.
The governor and the deputy pledged to abide by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and to deliver equitable development to the people of Delta.
The swearing-in was witnessed by many prominent citizens of the state, including a former governor of the state, Chief James Ibori.
In Oyo State, Mr. Seyi Makinde of the PDP was sworn in alongside his deputy, Mr. Rauf Olaniyan in Ibadan.
Makinde took his oath of office and oath of allegiance in company of his wife, Omini and three children.
The oath was administered by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Munta Abimbola.
Olaniyan also took the oath in the company of his wife and children.
The new PDP governor of Adamawa State, Mr. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and his deputy, Mr. Serth Crowder were sworn in by the chief judge of the state, Justice Ishaya Banu
The swearing-in which took place at Mahmood Ribadu Square, was witnessed by two former governors of the state, Messrs Boni Haruna and Bala James Ngilari, traditional rulers, senior judicial officers as well as permanent secretaries.
