ACCA: Nigerian duo elected to global leadership roles
… members choose experienced professionals to join governing council
By Ngozi Onyeakusi– Two Nigerians have won election to the global governing council of one of the world’s leading professional bodies.
Maryam Abisola Adefarati and Babajide Ibironke were chosen by members around the world toserve on the Council of ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).
They will represent 227,000 members and 544,000 future members based in 176 countries, promoting ACCA as a force for public good and supporting sustainable economic growth as well as the values of integrity and strong ethical behaviour.
Ms Adefarati has held an array of senior roles, most recently as finance director for Coca-Cola Nigeria and formerly with British American Tobacco, Pricewaterhouse Cooper and KPMG.
She was educated at the University of Lagos.
‘It is an honour to earn a place on ACCA’s Council and I will work hard to repay the trust colleagues have placed in me,’ said Ms Adefarati.
Mr Ibironke is chief financial officer of the power and utilities group, Viathan, and his special interests include corporate reporting and finance leadership.
He said: ‘I am thrilled to have the chance to speak on behalf of my colleagues everywhere, and it is such an honour to have attracted their support in the election. I will strive to promote my profession and the work of accountants across the world in every way I can.’
