Buhari sacks ministers of agriculture, power
By Ngozi Onyeakusi— President Muhammadu Buhari, today , relieved two minister of their duties. They are ministers of agriculture and rural development, Mr. Sabo Nanono and the minister of power, Mr. Mamman Sale.
This was disclosed by the Spokesman for the president, Mr. Femi Adesina disclosed this after the federal executive council meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
In their stead, Adesina said the minister of environment Mr. Muhammad Mahmood had been appointed minister of agriculture while the minister of state for works and housing, Mr. Abubakar Aliyu was redeployed to the ministry of power as substantive minister.
Meanwhile, Mr. Goddy Jedy Agba remains the minister of state for power.
The President said the changes were sequel to the “tradition of subjecting our projects and programmes implementation to independent and critical self-review through sector reporting during Cabinet meetings and at retreats.”
He added that “these significant review steps have helped to identify and strengthen weak areas, close gaps, build cohesion and synergy in governance, manage the economy and improve the delivery of public good to Nigerians.”
He said the exercise will continue to fill vacancies as prescribed in the constitution.
Nanono hails from Kano State while Mamman is from Taraba State.
