Expert advocates joint chartered exam for W/African insurance practitioners
Former Chairman of Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) and Presiden, Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CiIN) Olusola Ladipo-Ajayi, has recommended a joint Chartered Insurance Professional Examinations for insurance practitioners in West Africa subregion.
He said this at the just concluded West African Insurance Companies Association (WAICA) 50th Anniversary and Conference 2023, in Lagos, whilst calling on insurance practitioners in the subregion to come together and insurance practice great.
Ladipo-Ajayi noted that the joint examination would help insurance regulation in the subregion, stressing that to achieve effective regulation the subregion, inputs from practitioners are necessary.
“I have noted that the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) has started writing examinations in almost English speaking countries in West Africa, except Ghana.
“I’m looking forward to a time when Ghana too would be on board and when we would have a joint examination body like the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), but not necessarily operate like WAEC.
“This is because, if you want to regulate people in Ghana, Gambia, Liberia, you need to have inputs from practitioners, those who are on the field,” he said.
He submitted that the joint effort would bring about collage of facilities and international respect for practitioners in the subregion.
He noted that the West African Insurance Institute (WAII) in Gambia is recognised over all training institutes in the subregion, because of the caliber of people that are lecturing there, which are from all West Africa countries, adding that this is the beauty of synergy.
He implored the practitioners to come together from every aspect of their practice and make West Africa better.
