The Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) Mr Olusegun Ayo Omosehin today disclosed that the Commission is set to release guidelines for payment of claims emanating from third-party motor insurance policies.

This, among others is the fall out of insurers committee meeting held in Lagos.

Briefing the media after the meeting, the Head, Communication & Stakeholders Management Sub-committee and Managing Director Rex Insurance Limited Mrs Ebele Nwachukwu said the industry will be launching an awareness campaign aimed at making the public understand how third-party insurance works and benefits therein.

Nwachukwu who noted that before now, claims were not seen on third-party motor insurance business added that there was need for the awareness otherwise the industry will go back to the era of poor publicity.

She stated that commission in its usual way will expose the draft guidelines to get comments from the operators before making it a law.

Recall that NAICOM in partnership with the Nigerian Police Force on Feb 1 commenced enforcement of the mandatory third-party insurance.

This collaboration according to  Omosehin was aims to enhance road safety and protect motorists and third parties by enforcing existing insurance regulations.

He emphasized that the partnership underscores their commitment to ensuring safer roads through regulatory oversight and enforcement capabilities.
