The Women’s wing of Eluama Development Union (EDU), Isiukwuato, Lagos Chapter has elected new officials to pilot its affairs for the next four years.
Conducted by officials of EDU Women Electoral Committee, the election, which was observed by all new members of the union, followed a hitch-free process
At the end of the exercise, Ezinne Comfort Uwaeme emerged as the Union’s President, securing 32 votes to defeat other contestants while Mrs Stella Nwachukwu, who came second with 11 votes emerged as the Vice President.
Other members elected include Ngozi Ogor who took the position of Secretary General with 19 votes; Mrs Clementina Agugbuem secured 28 votes to emerge as Financial Secretary; Mrs Favour Irokanulo got eight (8) votes as Assistant Financial Secretary, while Mrs Chidinma Adindu was elected Treasurer with 19 votes in her favour
Others on the board of new executive team are Mrs Betty Irokanulo and Mrs Oluchi Izuogu as Social Secretary and Public Relations Officer (PRO) respectively while the position of Provost went to Mrs Ugonna Uwaezuoke and Mrs Uzoma Iroha emerged as Assistant Provost.
Additionally, the Union adopted Mrs Chinedum Okorie as the Internal Auditor 1 while Lucy Ibekwe got the position of Internal Auditor II
In her acceptance speech after the election, Mrs Uwaeme urged members to be more proactive in whatever they are doing to enable the union achieve the expected goal in the next four years, adding that members would be encouraged to come out with ideas capable of positively transforming the Union going forward.
Interacting with financial journalists after her inauguration, Mrs Uwaeme said the Union will stand on the pillars of empowerment, advocacy, and unity among the women, saying; “We will not merely talk about women’s empowerment; we will create opportunities for professional growth, financial independence, and mentorship among our members”.
She pledged that the new Executive will adopt different strategies beneficial to all the members, especially in terms of capacity building, skill acquisition, business and entrepreneurial training, among others
Importantly, the President disclosed that as time permits, experts would be engaged to train women in cosmetology like soap making, cream production, bread making, pastry creation, cake baking, and decorating, and small shops and other areas that would go a long way to increase financial inflow into their families.
Mrs Uwaeme also said the Union intends to have regular and robust health talks aimed at ensuring members improve their physical and mental health as well as overall well-being.
Calling on all members to join hands with the new Exco to foster a spirit of camaraderie, collaboration, and love within the Union, she promised to work tirelessly to justify the confidence repose on them and together, take our Union to new heights.
