Pharez Obioha,11, Emerges Winner, United Capital ‘A Day As CEO’

By Ngozi Onyeakusi—Coming on the heels of its successful BaÂck-to-School campaigÂn, United Capital PlÂc, one of Africa’s foremost investment banks and financial services institutioÂns, has announced 11-yeaÂr-old, Pharez Obioha, as winner of its first ever, ‘A Day as CEO’ initiative.
An offshoot of the campaign, the initiatÂive was created as one of the schemes to reward the best perÂforming participants of United Capital Plc’s ‘Money Savvy Kid’ financial literÂacy workshop for chiÂldren. The workshop was inspired by the need to teach childrÂen fundamental money management skills at a young age in ordÂer for them to become financially responÂsible adults in the future and help our economy grow.
As the competition’s first-place winner, Pharez Obioha was given the unique oppoÂrtunity to serve as CEO of United Capital Plc for one day. In his new role, he was given an exclusÂive tour of the compÂany’s headquarters in Lagos, where he met with executive manÂagement and had a meÂet and greet with emÂployees. In addition, a prize presentatiÂon ceremony was held at the same locatioÂn, where he was presÂented with a N150,Â000 cheque to be invÂested in his United Capital Education TrÂust account, an inveÂstment fund primarily focused on the welÂfare of children. The first and second runners-up, Oluwatosin Babafemi, and AyobÂami Arogundade receiÂved N100,000 and N50Â,000 respectively.
Speaking at the evenÂt, Group CEO of UnitÂed Capital Plc, Peter Ashade, said “ChilÂdren are the future of tomorrow, so it is critical to confroÂnt financial literÂacy in our society from a foundational level, and that is the basis for this iniÂtiative. We are deliÂghted to present theÂse prizes to the chiÂldren because it is our investment in thÂeir future, and we hope that this opportÂunity will inspire them to aim high and set lofty goals for themselves.”
He went on to say thÂat the campaign receÂived over 1,000 entrÂies from children boÂth at home and abroaÂd. The winners were chosen based on their attendance and performance at the fiÂnancial literacy worÂkshop, adherence to the stated submission deadline, and possÂession of United CapÂital Education trust accounts, a feature that drove uptake of the investment proÂduct.
