Chartered Insurance Institute Nigeria (CIIN) recently hosted a highly successful mentorship bootcamp designed to equip young practitioners with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the insurance industry. The bootcamp focused on effective mentorship, providing participants with valuable insights and practical tools to enhance their professional development.
The Sixth Edition of the CIIN Mentorship Programme, tagged Bootcamp 6.0, themed “Mentorship, Mindset and Momentum: Unlocking career growth in a fast-changing world”, was held at the College of Insurance and Financial Management (CIFM), Aseese, Ogun State. The two-day event, which started on Friday, August 15, and Saturday, August 16, 2025, hosted 74 participants from across various arms of the industry: Underwriting, Broker and Loss Adjusters.
CIIN President/Chairman of Council, Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, FIIN, declared the camp opened at 3:15pm after the Institute Registrar, Mrs. Abimbola Tiamiyu, FIIN, PhD, presented the participants to the President. Some selected industry giants graced the Pep Talk Session to share personal life experiences on career growth. Dr. Omoniyi Agboola, Mrs. Muibat Jimoh and Mrs. Bisola Elias shared real-life scenarios of growth within the insurance industry. Dr. Babatunde Jesusina facilitated the mental health talk, which focused on the Effect of Early Marriage on building a Successful Career. The first day ended with a social night, which was a networking platform for participants.
Mrs. Olaitan Oladimeji, facilitated the first session of the second day which was the keynote address on the theme of the Bootcamp, ‘Mentorship, Mindset and Momentum’ Mrs. Olaitan noted that there are two major types of mindsets, fixed mindset and growth mindset, she added that a growth mindset will help the mentees to learn from their mentors. Mrs Oredola Kayode-Sanni took the participants through a personality test which the results revealed unknown psychological facts about the participants. The final session on the theme of the bootcamp, facilitated by Dr. Olumuyiwa Oludayo, focused on the attributes of a successful mentorship programme. He stressed that Mentorship can be influenced by diverse factors and indices, such as Coaches, Mentors, Role models and Sponsors. He further added that the participants must make a difference in their mentorship style in order to have their mentors as investors in their careers.
Participants were grouped into four teams, namely, White, Black, Sky Blue and Lemon to work on the task; Mentorship That Works. The participants in their different teams were asked to develop a structured mentorship programme for young professionals in insurance, including how to select mentors, run the programme, and measure success. The team presentation brought together young industry practitioners for a comprehensive learning experience. After the presentations, team black emerged winner, while team lemon emerged 1st runner-up, team white as, second runner-up up and team skye blue came fourth.
The event was well attended by revered insurance professionals, Past Presidents, Sir (Dr.) Muftau Oyegunle, Mr. Edwin Igbiti, CIIN Deputy President, Mr. Akinjide Orimolade, CIIN Treasurer, Mrs. Adetutu Aruisika, Council Member, Dr. (Mrs.) Yeside Oyetayo, CIFM Rector, Dr. (Mrs.) Chizoba Ehiogwu, Mr. Adetola Adegbayi and Mr. Sunkanmi Adekeye, amongst others.
The Insurance Institute’s mentorship bootcamp is part of its ongoing commitment to supporting the growth and development of young professionals in the insurance industry. By providing a platform for knowledge sharing and skill-building, the Institute aims to foster a new generation of leaders and innovators in the industry.
