Moghalu to Headline 4th Bankers’ Annual Lecture
Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Deputy Governor and 2019 Presidential aspirant of the Young Progressive Party (YPP),
Professor Kingsley Chiedu Moghalu will be the Distinguished Guest Lecturer of 2018 Annual lecture of the Chartered Institute
of Banking (CIBN) on June 28, 2018 in Lagos.
Professor Moghalu will address the nation’s top bankers and finance industry executives on the topic “Of Banks and Bankers:
Finance and the Challenge of Economic Development in Nigeria”. Moghalu, a fellow of CIBN, was a Deputy Governor of the CBN from 2009 to 2014. He led the apex bank team that stabilised the Nigerian banking system after the 2008 global
financial crisis as deputy governor in charge of financial stability. He also led the implementation of reforms in the financial
sector initiated by then CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the current Emir of Kano. As deputy governor for operations in
2014, Moghalu also superintended the introduction of payment system reforms including the introduction of the Bank
Verification Number (BVN).
The political economist and former United Nations official was appointed Professor of Practice in International Business and
Public Policy of the prestigious Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University in Massachusetts, USA after his five-year tenure at the Central Bank of Nigeria. Professor Kingsley Moghalu returned to Nigeria in November 2017 to start the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET); a think tank with headquarters in Abuja.
He announced his candidacy for the Nigerian presidential elections in 2019 in February 2018 and later picked the YPP, a new generation political party as his political party platform. Moghalu is the author of several books including Emerging Africa: How The Global Economy’s ‘Last Frontier’ Can Prosper and Matter and his latest Build, Innovate and Grow (BIG): My Vision for Nigeria,in which, he sets out his vision for nation-building to tackle poverty and unemployment, and restore
Nigeria’s standing in the world. He holds a doctorate degree in
International Relations from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a law degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
The 2018 CIBN annual lecture will be chaired by Mr Kyari A. Bukar, President of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group
(NESG). The event will feature panellists including Mr. Chinedu
Ikwudinma, MD/CEO of NOVA Merchant Bank Limited; Mr.
Kunle Oyinloye, MD/CEO of the Infrastructure Bank Plc; Mrs. Eileen Shaiyen, Founder/CEO of H. Pierson Associates Limited;
Dr. Andrew Nevin, Advisory Partner/Chief Economist of PwC Nigeria; Mr. Johnson Chukwu, MD/CE of Cowry Assets
Management Limited, and Mr. Ingo Herbert, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany.
