The Director, Policy and Planning National Automotive Design and Development Council, NADDC, Mr. Mamud Luqman has disclosed the councils plans not to ban imported used vehicles until government concludes arrangement on auto finance low interest rate

Mr. Mamud Luqman, Director, Policy and Planning NADDC made this disclosure in Lagos, at a meeting with stakeholders in the industry, yesterday.

Luqman, who during a question and answer session, however pointed out that such imported used cars must come with road worthiness certificates.

He also disclosed that the Federal Government was working out an auto finance scheme to enable Nigerians acquire new cars at affordable prices from the local manufacturers.

The meeting was the first by the newly appointed NADDC, Director General, Mr. Jelani Aliyu, who expressed hope that the National Auto Policy will be implemented to move the nation’s auto industry forward.

Aliyu explained that the Federal Government was determined to take the sector to further height by even manufacturing electric cars like most other countries of the world.

“Electric cars are fascinating, it is the next future and Nigeria cannot afford to be left behind. We must move along with the rest of the world,” he said.

He noted that their plan was to ensure that the local plants produce affordable and quality vehicles for Nigeria.

According to him, “The future is bright for the sector as the National Automotive Industrial Development plan bill is awaiting passage by the Senate, having successfully gone through the lower House.”
