The Federal Government has announced that beginning from Monday, October 15, 2018, it will commence the final verification and payment of entitlements to all former workers of the defunct Nigeria Airways.
It stated this in a statement issued on Tuesday by the new Special Adviser on Media and Communications to the Minister of Finance, Paul Abechi.
The government said the payment would last for one week and would be done simultaneously in Lagos, Kano and Enugu.
The Federal Government had recently approved N22.68bn for the ex-workers of the defunct national carrier.
The statement said that in the Lagos centre, the exercise would take place at Sky-Power Catering, Ikeja, while it would hold at ABC (former Nigeria Airways office), Bank Road, Kano, for the Kano centre.
“The venue for the Enugu centre is Villa Toscana Hotel, No. 1, Aguleri Street, Independent Layout, Enugu. The exercise will take place from Monday, October 15 to Monday, October 22, 2018 across the centres, except in Enugu where it will end on Thursday, October 18, 2018,” it added.
The statement further revealed that beneficiaries were expected to come along with the following documents to the centres, letter of appointment, letter of confirmation, letter of last promotion, letter of retirement, NAL identity card, other means of identification and particulars of bank accounts.
“That beneficiaries will be subjected to biometric data capture. Beneficiaries should come along with copies of documents listed above for submission to the verification committee. The beneficiaries are to be captured in an orderly manner hence, notice will be placed at the venue and specific date for capturing of each beneficiary will be indicated,” it added.
The Minister of Finance, Zainab Ahmed, had recently stated at a meeting with the ex-workers, “Upon my resumption of office as minister, some pending fiscal issues in the aviation and education sectors were immediately brought to my attention.
“As such, I took it as a challenge to quickly address key issues regarding the settlement of existing claims in both of these sectors. Consequent upon this, I am happy to inform you that Mr President has graciously approved the sum of N22.68bn and N20bn to aviation and education sectors, respectively.”
