The latest factsheet from the Nigerian Midstream Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has revealed that Nigeria imported an estimated 543 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also known as petrol, in June 2026. The 543 million litres import volume represents a sharp increase from approximately 177 million litres imported in May. The report showed that average daily imported PMS receipts rose from 5.9 million litres in May to 18.1 million litres in June, representing a 207 per cent increase. Based on a 30-day month, the June import volume translates to about 543 million litres, compared with 177 million litres in May. Overall, Nigeria received an average of 50.6 million litres of petrol daily in June, up from 47.4 million litres per day in May. The NMDPRA data also showed that domestic supply, largely driven by Dangote Petroleum Refinery and other local refineries, accounted for 32.5 million litres per day, representing about 64 per cent of the country’s total daily PMS receipts during the month. Imported petrol contributed the remaining 18.1 million litres per day, or about 36 per cent of total supply.
