Top Nigerian clerics, Pastors Enoch Adeboye (General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG) and William Kumuyi (General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church) have given reasons why their churches will continue using popular micro blogging and social networking service, Twitter despite a subsisting ban by the Federal Government.

Adeboye and Kumuyi said tweets by their churches were in accordance with the United Nations declaration on human rights, irrespective of the suspension of Twitter operations by the federal government.

The federal government had though the Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, announced the “indefinite” suspension in a statement last week by his spokesman Segun Adeyemi.

Adeboye, while reacting to allegations of flouting FG’s order in a terse statement, said: “The Redeemed Christian Church of God is domiciled in more than 170 Nations & Territories. The tweets here are in accordance to Article 19 of the UN universal declaration of Human Rights.”
