Wike, Atiku

The governor of Rivers State, Mr. Nyesom Wike, said he would soon speak and reveal to Nigerians what has been happening in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since the emergence of the former vice president, Mr. Atiku Abubakar as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

The governor, in a statement by his media aide, Mr. Kelvin Ebiri, said it had become pertinent for him to speak on issues concerning the party in recent time.

On Atiku, I will speak soon and Nigerians will know the actual truth of all that has transpired in the PDP in recent times,” he said.

Wike’s outburst is connected to a recent interview on Arise Television last Friday wherein Aitku made a comment suggesting that he could not work amicably with the governor as running mate.

Asked why he picked the governor of Delta State, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa instead of Wike, Atiku said he chose someone who has “the qualities to be President.”

He added that he only picked who he felt could deliver among the nominees that were presented to him.

“The person must have an appreciation of the deep rot which our country has been put into by the rudderless All Progressives Congress government; understands the great suffering that most of our people are going through and the urgency of relieving them of that suffering; understands the critical importance of economic growth and development to provide our young people with jobs, hope, and a pathway to wealth.”

He added: “I didn’t reject Wike, I picked who can deliver.

“But you must understand that it’s the prerogative of the candidate to pick his running mate — a running mate he believes he can work with amicably, and then also deliver the policies of the party, and also try to unify the country.”
