By Ngozi Onyeakusi—Isiaka Ibrahim roared to victory in a sensational finishing during an under age 2nd Cycling Lagos Competition recently in Lagos to extend his dominance in Lagos State and Nigeria in general.

Ibrahim, who won a gold and silver medals at the national youth championship recently in Delta State, cycled for 8:9.14 seconds to beat his closest rival, Ategbero Tayo who came second with 8:9.25 seconds while Ajibade Ibrahim came third with 8:12.54 seconds.

In the female cartegory, Olawale Marvelous who came first cycled for 9:01.11 seconds to beat Arogundade Aishat who came second with 9:01.43 seconds and Olawale Charity came third with 9:09.39 seconds.

Also, in the under 10 boys cartegory, Azeez Mohammed displayed an outstanding performance to come first by cycling for 3:22.30 seconds while Arogundade Toheeb cycled for 3:25.12 seconds and Popola Emmanuel came third with 3:30.48 seconds.

In the under 10 girls cartegory, Azeez Amira cycled for 3:51.49 seconds to come first beating Amina Olamiposi who came second by cycling for 4:31.62 seconds and Ogunrinde Olaide came third with 4:35.78.

Speaking during the completion, the convener of Cycling Lagos and the Managing Director of Brand Escort Communications, Bamidele Adeleye said; “We at Cycling Lagos are excited today because some kids with raw talents are being discovered for the development of sports in Nigeria.

Cycling Lagos is an annual cycling event that brings interested participants from different parts of the country to compete. The 2nd edition of Cycling Lagos, one of the biggest cycling competitions in Africa, has started with the children/youth race with took place on October 21,” he said.

According to him, “the theme for this year is: “Greener Ride”, partly inspired by the vision of the state government to reduce carbon emissions in the state as part of efforts to address climate change in the country. The event, which further promotes cycling as a major sporting activity in the country, was designed to encourage Nigerians to embrace a culture of health and fitness by riding bicycles in their various communities.”

The event which is in partnership with Lagos State Sports Commission, Lagos State Cycling Association, Seven Bottling Company and Multichoce was well attended by athletes from Oyo State, Ogun State, Ekiti State, Osun State among others.
