By  Ngozi Onyeakusi—total pension fund assets increased by 6.4 per cent or N1.17 trillion in January 2024 to N19.53 trillion. This is against N18.36 trillion recorded in December 2023. According to the January monthly report released by the National Pension Commission, PenCom, yesterday, N12.14 trillion of the fund was invested in Federal Government of Nigeria securities. A breakdown of the investment in FGN securities revealed that bonds gulped N11.59 trillion; treasury bills, N221.81 billion; agency bonds, N14.86 billion; sukuk bonds, N124.89 billion while green bonds got N181.57 billion. Further review show that N270.00 billion was invested in state government securities and N1.71 trillion in money market instruments. PenCom said the fund assets in dollars value was $14.39 billion at an exchange rate of N1,356 per dollar. According to PenCom the Retirement Savings Account (RSA) membership also rose 0.29 per cent to 10, 220 million in January from 10.190 million in December last year.
