As part of its Social Corporate Responsibility geared toward promoting youth empowerment across the country, the Ikeja Metro Lions Club District 404B2, Nigeria has donated cane weaving and shoe making machines to Oregun Correction Centre for Boys, Ikeja.

Making presentation of the machines to the centre, the President of the club, Lion Helen Irueghe, stated that the donation was part of the activities lined up for clubs empowerment and engagement week aimed at engaging the youth meaning fully.

She said the week was set aside to increase skill acquisition of the youth. She noted that Lions club is know for the kind of gesture. ” Lions Clubs is a society that reach out to the society and impart lives, we do visit the needy in the society, know what need is, touch their lives and bless them, that is what we come to do here today. Today we are giving these machines to this home and we believe it will facilitate their work.

Also speaking during the presentation, the Chairperson, Zone 6A District 404B2 Nigeria, Blessing Umebali state, ” What my club, Ikeja Metro Lions Club I did today is Engaging our youth, to be responsible and responsive citizens. Coming to this correction centre, we made a research and found out their immediate needs are Cane weaving and shoe making machines. So that is what we have donated today. We know that Government alone cannot do everything so I am using this opportunity to urge well meaning Nigerians, Corporate bodies and Non Governmental Organization (NGO) to take youth empowerment serious.
